Australian Plane Spots New Objects in Hunt For Flight 370

An Australian navy ship steamed Monday night toward the remote spot in the Indian Ocean where a surveillance plane earlier spotted two objects that could be related to missing Malaysia Airlines Flight 370.

One object is "a grey or green circular object," and the other is "an orange rectangular object," the Australian Maritime Safety Authority said.

The reports have once again raised hopes of meaningful progress in the hunt for the plane, which has gone on for more than two weeks. Flight 370 vanished over Southeast Asia on March 8 during a flight from Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, to Beijing. On board were 227 passengers and 12 crew.

Experts urged restraint.

"The fact that it's got color is really intriguing," said Colleen Keller, a senior analyst with Metron Inc., a defense contractor that helped with the search for Air France Flight 447. "But I've got to caution everybody, there's a lot of junk out there."

528 Muslim Brotherhood Supporters Sentenced To Death In Egypt

An Egyptian court sentenced at least 528 supporters of the Muslim Brotherhood to death Monday on charges related to violent riots in the southern Egyptian city of Minya last August, including the murder of a police officer, the country's official news agency said.

The riots took place after a deadly crackdown by security forces on two large sit-ins in Cairo, where demonstrators were supporting ousted President Mohammed Morsy.

While the official MENA news agency reported 528 death sentences, other Egyptian media said 529 people were sentenced to death.

More Damming Evidence At Oscar Pistorious Trial

Oscar Pistorius was not wearing his prostheses when he broke down a door to reach his girlfriend after he shot her, his murder trial has heard.

The forensic evidence contradicted Mr Pistorius' claim that he was wearing prosthetics at the time.

The door has been brought into court to be examined during the murder trial.

Mr Pistorius denies intentionally killing Reeva Steenkamp in February last year, saying he fired after mistaking her for a burglar.

Man Released After 25 Years On Death Row In US

A man who spent more than 25 years on death row in the US state of Louisiana has walked free from prison after his murder conviction for the 1983 killing of a jeweller was overturned.

Glenn Ford, 64, had been on death row since August 1988.

He had been found guilty of killing 56-year-old Isadore Rozeman, a jeweller for whom Mr Ford occasionally worked.

14 Years Boy Rapes Mum In UK

A boy of 14 has been charged with raping his mother, police have said.

The youngster is alleged to have committed the attack at the family home in Blackpool, Lancashire, last weekend.

Judge Jeff Brailsford, sitting at the town’s magistrates’ court, called the alleged offence a ‘grave crime’, the Blackpool Gazette reports.

The boy, who cannot be named for legal reasons, was released on bail ahead of a hearing at Preston crown court on March 11.

He is said to be the youngest in Britain to be charged with the rape of a mother.

Snake Pastor Killed By Snake Poison

A Kentucky pastor who co-starred in the TV show Snake Salvation has died of a snake bite, police in Middlesboro said.

 Emergency personnel received a call Saturday night that someone at a church, Full Gospel Tabernacle in Jesus Name, had suffered a snake bite, Police Chief Jeff Sharpe said in a statement. He said an ambulance crew went to the church, but the Rev. Jamie Coots had left. The crew went to Coots’ home and found him suffering from a bite to the hand.

Rakka, Syria: A young girl was stoned to death by sunni-militant groups in Syria for operating Facebook account.

Fatoum Al-Jassem was taken to a Sharia court after she was caught using the social networking website, in Rakka, Syria. The Sharia court declared that using a Facebook account amounts to adultery and the girl should be punished by stoning, according to a news report published in Iran's FARS news agency which quoted a report published in Arabic-language Al-Rai Al-Youm.

A 48-year-old Canadian woman has died from strangulation after her scarf and hair got caught in an escalator at a Montreal train station.

The freak accident took place just after 9am Thursday morning at the Fabre metro station along Montreal's blue line.

Witnesses told police they saw the unnamed victim struggling to free her scarf after it got lodged in the teeth of an escalator on her way down to the subway platform.

A 20-year-old Forest Hill man was arrested by Harford County Sheriff’s Office deputies early Thursday morning, hours after police said he stabbed his mother to death in their home.

Isaac Anya Ojiabo Jr., 20, was taken into custody without incident at approximately 4:30 a.m., when detectives canvassing the Forest Hill area located him in his family’s white Lexus SUV at the intersection of Crouse and Putnam Road, Sheriff’s Office spokesman Edward Hopkins said.

Valerie Trierweiler has arrived in India for a charity visit following her split from President Hollande.

The former First Lady arrived at Mumbai airport soon after midnight local time and was swamped with photographers as she made her way to a waiting limousine.

The managing director of India's Tata Motors has died after he was believed to have fallen from a high floor balcony of a hotel in Bangkok today.

British-born Karl Slym was on a business trip at the time of his death and had attended a board meeting of the company's Thailand unit in the country's capital before plummeting from the hotel building.

James Avery, the much loved patriarch in the Fresh Prince of Bel-Air, has died aged 68.

The versatile actor played Uncle Phil to Will Smith's Philly newcomer in the beloved show from 1990 to 1996 and worked on a number of TV and film projects up until he fell ill this year.

TMZ reported that the actor died suddenly in an Los Angeles hospital on New Year's Eve from complications following open heart surgery.
